The Best Days and Times to Post Content

social-media-calendarDespite all our efforts to make our marketing 1:1 and uber-personal, most of the social content marketers publish is broadcast in nature.  Although it takes a lot more time and coordination, TopRight always recommends to publish based on channel rather than just reposting to every social network at the same time.  Of course, the question remains: When is the best time for my particular content and key audiences?

Turns out that the most popular day to post content is not always the most effective day, according to a new series of reports from TrackMaven.   While this is intriguing, we don’t  believe everyone will benefit from adopting the study’s most effective times immediately.  It’s also important to consider your own brand, products and audience behavior.  The most effective times may not be the buying decision moments for your audience.

What is more interesting is that the most popular times, which seem to be the “rush hour” or highest traffic moments, are not always the most effective for response rates.  (It could also be true that lower traffic means less clutter and higher response.)  If lower traffic times work for your audience – and this may vary by channel – then certainly embrace them!

(Note: all times are US EST; days/times are based on cumulative data with popularity/effectiveness varying from brand to brand).

  • Blogs: The most popular days for posting to blogs are Tuesday and Wednesday, and the most popular time is between 11 AM and 12 PM; the most effective day is Saturday, and the most effective time is between 12 AM and 1.
  • Email: The most popular day for sending emails is Thursday, and the most popular time is between 11 AM and 12 PM; the most effective day is Thursday, and the most effective time is between 2 PM and 5 PM.
  • Facebook: The most popular day for posting to Facebook is Thursday, and the most popular time is between 12 PM and 1 PM; the most effective day is Sunday, and the most effective time is between 12 AM and 1 PM.
  • Instagram: The most popular day that brands post content to Instagram is Thursday, and the most popular time is between 1 PM and 2PM; the most effective day (i.e., with the highest engagement level) is Monday and the most effective time is between 8 AM and 9 AM.
  • Twitter: The most popular day for tweeting is Thursday, and the most popular time is between 12 PM and 1 PM; the most effective day is Sunday, and the most effective time is between 10 PM and 11 PM.
